Who are the managers? what are they for and what are they worth?
A free on-line webinar for everyone with an interest in the business management of veterinary
practices Tuesday May 13th 2008 - 1pm (1300 BST) If you employ a practice manager or administrator
If you are employed as a practice manager or administrator
If you are a consultant, advisor, supplier, clinician or anyone with an interest in the business of
veterinary practice Then join us online during a free Webinar on Tuesday, May 13th at 1pm Are you aware that: Data collected by the National Commission of Veterinary Economic Issues in North America has shown
that veterinarians are more efficient, and earn significantly more money when they hire practice
managers. Practitioners are able to focus more on medicine, and therefore generate more income
and NCVEI data shows that practice owners, especially sole practitioners, who think they can't afford
to hire an extra staff member, cannot afford not to invest in better management. BUT is this true in the UK? The Webinar objective is to:
- discuss the purpose of business (rather than clinical) management in a veterinary practice
- consider the current range of management tasks and job descriptions for practice managers and
administrators in the UK
- address the costs of the management role and the financial and service delivery benefits which can
result from the use of modern business techniques and tools by management staff, trained and experienced
in their use.
- invite all participants to complete an online questionnaire immediately after the webinar. The
questionnaire will seek to identify the responsibilities, remuneration and achievements of the
management staff in practice and a comment box for each participant.
The webinar proceedings and the survey results will form the basis of a future article in the
Veterinary Business Journal The contributors:
John Sheridan -- Moderator
Anna Wardle -- Practice Manager of the Year 2007, joint owner and practice manager

participate in the comfort of your own home or office. You don't have to dress up, drive anywhere,
struggle to find a parking spot or worry about being late! Who can participate? -- anyone with a PC, a broadband connection to the internet and a
telephone. Participation is free apart from the cost of your own telephone call (standard access
number quoted by the conference call service at 5p per minute).
Attending a webinar is like attending any seminar apart from the place where the event takes place.
Instead of meeting in a conference room we will meet in a virtual conference room on the web. Joining
a meeting is easy - just follow the instructions, which you will receive shortly after you have
registered.
